7 Easy Steps to Properly Dispose of a Face Mask
“Fold, Roll, Dispose”
- Remove the face mask without touching the inside or outside of the mask.
- Fold or roll the mask, keeping the part that touched your body inside.
- Wrap the earloops around the mask.
- Put the mask in a separate bag from other types of waste and tie it tightly to prevent the spread of germs.
- Write clearly on the bag that it is infectious waste (used face mask).
- Dispose of the mask in a red infectious waste bin for proper disposal.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap or hand sanitizer after disposing of the face mask every time.
Additional tips:
- Do not throw used face masks in the regular trash or recycling bin.
- Do not flush used face masks down the toilet.
- If you are sick, it is best to dispose of your face mask in a separate bag from other household waste.
